I am David Steffes, your professional swimming instructor.
Swimming has been a part of my life since I was a child. After learning to swim for several years with the DLRG, I soon developed a desire to teach children and adults how to swim and to help them improve their swimming technique.
When I started my training as a swimming instructor in Luxembourg in 2019, I founded my swimming school Schwammen. The intensive three-year training includes a large pedagogical part in dealing with babies, school children, adults and seniors.
With more than 350 customers a year, my swimming school is the most successful in Luxembourg.

In my baby swimming courses, the focus is not only on getting used to the water, but also on having fun and moving around. The buoyancy in the water means that babies can move much more easily than on dry land, where their still weak muscles have to fight against gravity. This strengthens self-awareness and body awareness as well as motor skills. The courses take place in water that is a pleasant 32 degrees.

We familiarize the children with the element of water in a playful way. Together we learn how to jump from the edge of the pool and how to dive and glide in shallow water. The course is not only fun, it is also the perfect preparation for the beginners’ swimming course for ages 6 and up.

First, the children learn in a playful way, as part of the water familiarization process, how to fully and independently submerge themselves without any problems. The children should learn to orient themselves underwater and to see and pick up objects.
The children should also learn to glide through the water in a prone position and stretch their bodies.
The jump from the edge of the pool should be practiced without fear.
As the course progresses, the arm and leg movements of breaststroke swimming (using swimming/buoyancy aids) are learned in order to stimulate motivation for further swimming activities.

Perfect your swimming style and learn new techniques. We provide personalized support and guidance to help you achieve your personal goals. The focus is on the complex movement sequences and proper breathing technique for breaststroke and front crawl swimming.
Aqua courses
Our aqua courses
By reducing your own body weight through the buoyancy of the water, moving in the water enables gentle, joint-friendly and yet efficient training. Thanks to the water resistance, the water pressure and the associated increased energy consumption, blood circulation is promoted, muscles are strengthened, tissue is toned, mobility is improved and the cardiovascular system is strengthened.
Aqua-Fitness
Aqua fitness is a comprehensive workout in the water that effectively trains flexibility, strength and endurance.
Aqua-Fit is also ideal for managing stress, for example after a day at work.
Compared to classic water gymnastics (aqua gym), aqua-fit is more athletically ambitious.
Endurance and strength training in the water are the main components of Aqua-Fit, which can be ideally combined with other sports as a balance.
Aqua-Gym
Aqua-Gym is an efficient but gentle form of water gymnastics to improve fitness and increase well-being. Aqua-Gym involves performing various exercises – some with aids – in chest-deep water. Muscles and joints are trained in a targeted and gentle way.
Aqua-Gym is also an ideal course for older people and to improve mobility, for example after injuries.
Aqua-Seniors is an ideal course for older people and to improve mobility, for example after injuries.
Aqua-Jogging
In contrast to normal jogging, aqua jogging is gentler on the joints. Since the water offers around 60 times more resistance to every movement than air, all muscle groups are challenged.
This tones the figure, increases fitness and improves strength, endurance and flexibility. Unlike sports on land, all parts of the body are trained evenly.
Aqua jogging improves fitness, strengthens endurance and, above all, is fun.
Equipped with a special “Aqua Belt” you float effortlessly in the water.

Triathlon swim training
Attention triathletes!
riathlon often depends on swimming. It is the first of the three disciplines and here the beginning can already mean the end.
Learn the right crawl technique to be able to swim powerfully and enduringly in open water. With the right technique, swimming is so much fun!
You will be able to manage the 1.8 km or even the 3.6 km at the Ironman easily and stay fit for the rest of the competition.

Video analysis
Video analysis
Video analysis is the most important training tool in the swimming world and an absolute “must”. More important than any performance diagnostics or test on land or in the water, video analysis ultimately ensures that swimmers and coaches are talking about the same thing.
Using a combination of above-water and underwater footage, I will do a visual comparison every three to four weeks to capture the drive-relevant moments. This allows you to objectify the mental image of your movement and pave the way for technique changes.

Stand Up Paddling Courses
Would you like to try stand up paddling in summer, but you don’t have the necessary technique? I will teach you various effective paddling techniques that also work in stronger winds and in confined spaces. In addition, knowledge of safety and navigation rules is deepened.
This course is also possible in the indoor pool at any time of the year.

Brevet Junior Life Saver
- At least 12 years old on the day of the exam
- show parental permission
- Show a medical certificate
- Swim for 15 minutes, including 5 minutes on your back without using your arms
- swim a distance of 100m with clothes on
- After swimming, take off your clothes in the water without holding on to the edge. The dress code for points b) and c) is as follows: Men: swimming trunks, long trousers and a shirt or a sweater; Women: swimsuit, skirt (down to the knees) and blouse or long trousers with a sweater. For men and women, the swimsuit or swimming trunks must be worn under the clothes.
- 15m dive so that the body is one meter under water
- Dive 3 metres under water within 2 minutes and bring a 2.5 kg weight to the surface. Then show the weight with your arms outstretched.
- Carry a person who is drowning 30 meters in the water and pull them out of the water. During the route you must be able to demonstrate 3 different towing grips.
- Demonstrate 3 different escape moves when the victim attacks you
- Basics of resuscitation and the technique of cardiac massage
Life Saver
- Be at least 16 years old on the day of the exam
- Be in possession of the 1st Brevet (JUNIOR LIFESAVER) of the F.L.N.S., for at least 30 days
- Show a medical certificate or a valid sports license
- Dive 25m so that the body is one meter under water (start in the water)
- Swim 400m with clothes on, including 100m on the back without using the arms for 16 minutes. Remove clothes without holding on to the edge, carry a doll back and hold it tightly for 2 minutes
- Complete a 10m underwater course (push off underwater) in a maximum of 15 seconds, then return to the surface to recover for a maximum of 12 seconds. Then pull up a drowning victim (monitor) from the depths, then tow them 30m (while being towed, the victim defends himself at least once), get out of the water and bring the victim to a solid surface and demonstrate the basics of resuscitation and cardiac massage. Demonstrate recovery position.

- To receive the Gold Badge, the following achievements must be made:
- Minimum age of nine years.
- 30 minutes of swimming after a headfirst dive from the edge of the pool.
- Cover at least 800 meters: 650 meters lying on your stomach or back, 150 meters in the other position.
- Knowledge of bathing rules.
- Knowledge of the most important emergency measures in the event of swimming, boating and ice accidents (self-rescue and simple rescue by others).
- Starting jump and 25 meter freestyle swimming.
- Starting jump and 50 meters breaststroke in a maximum of 1 minute and 15 seconds.
